Transdermal delivery of drugs and non-pharmacological active ingredients has been utilized for decades. Initially in orthopedics for pain relief and rehabilitation, this method has extended to
dermatology and plastic surgery.

What is transdermal delivery?

Transdermal delivery or electroporation is an effective, non-invasive technique. It uses gentle electrical impulses to temporarily create “electropores” on the skin surface (invisible to the naked eye), making the skin permeable to active ingredients in cosmetics and medications.

How electroporation works

The goal of transdermal delivery is to act on cellular metabolism so that our target, a dermal cell called fibroblast, produces collagen, elastin, and other substances in adequate quantities.
The treatment harnesses the ability of specific electromagnetic waves to activate intracellular transport channels (electropores), through which it is possible to deliver the amino acids necessary for fibroblasts to produce the substances that the dermis requires.

In addition to antiaging treatments, electroporation is also used in the trichological field to toughen the bulb in defluvium (progressive and irreversible hair loss), in the treatment of acne and rosacea, or in preparation for blepharoplasty and facelift surgeries.

In anti-aging procedures, the treatment is carried out to provide the skin with all those amino acids necessary for the production of new substances in the extracellular matrix (collagen, hyaluronic acid, and elastin), while for the scalp, microelements such as sulfur-containing amino acids, specific growth factors, and minoxidil are delivered.

Procedure of electroporation

Sophisticated equipment is employed for electroporation. Treatment is administered with a special handpiece, allowing active ingredients to penetrate the dermis, the intermediate layer between the epidermis and hypodermis.

Transdermal delivery surpasses the tough outer layer of the epidermis (stratum corneum), which typically impedes penetration of hydrophilic substances with high molecular weights like hyaluronic acid and collagen.

Electroporation session

Sessions are outpatient and last about 40 minutes. The therapy is painless and does not require local anesthesia. Treatment frequency typically begins weekly, then extends to every 15 or 20 days as advised by the specialist.

Mild skin irritation may occur post-treatment but usually resolves within hours. Face and body electroporation can be performed at Medicalia Miami. Our procedures are performed by experienced dermatologists using certified and tested products. Equipped with state-of-the-art technology compliant with current regulations, our center ensures safe and effective dermatological procedures.

Reducing the appearance of cellulite, stretch marks

Carboxytherapy, also known as carboxiterapie, is a medical procedure in which carbon dioxide (CO2) gas is injected into the skin or subcutaneous tissue. It’s often used for cosmetic purposes, such as reducing the appearance of cellulite, stretch marks, and dark under-eye circles. dark under-eye circles.

A Hollywood carbon peel, also known as a Hollywood laser peel or carbon laser peel, is a cosmetic procedure that involves using a carbon-based lotion or mask applied to the skin, followed by a laser treatment.

The laser energy is attracted to the carbon particles on the skin’s surface, helping to exfoliate and rejuvenate the skin. It can improve skin texture, reduce pore size, and address issues like pigmentation, acne, and fine lines specific for face treatments.
